What we do

Bioscience is a consultancy firm servicing your environmental reporting needs, delivering plant, soil, water and microbiological analysis, and conducting R&D activities for your business. We also service the engineering side of urban developments and produce models for both hydrological and hydrogeological projects. We also specialise in environmental consulting, groundwater licensing and licence trading.

Peter Keating

Peter Keating | Managing Director

Peter Keating has over 35 years practical experience in commercial science, starting and managing agricultural biotechnology and environmental businesses, working in a range of disciplines, from biochemistry and molecular biology, soil science, water science, plant nutrition and plant pathology. He started his first business before completing his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at UWA, and has attracted talented and qualified scientists and engineers to work with him on challenging, multi-disciplinary research and services ever since. He has supervised post-graduate student research throughout his career. With extensive knowledge and experience of Western Australia’s flora and fauna, waterbodies and aquifers, soils and geology, as well as the regulatory framework, Peter is widely recognised as the state’s leading consultant across the environmental, horticulture and agriculture space.

Genette Keating

Genette Keating | Co-Director and Senior Botanist

Genette graduated from UWA in horticultural science, specialising in native flora. She has a passion for the state’s bushland and is experienced in the identification and taxonomy of the many species present. She is the financial controller of the company, and also takes a keen interest in community groups and in consumer issues and as president of the Consumers Association of WA, she sits on a number of government and commercial bodies.

Falko Mathes

Falko Mathes | Microbiologist

Falko studied biology at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg (Germany) before completing his PhD in marine microbiology at Cardiff University (UK). During his post-doctoral research at UWA (Perth, Australia), Falko investigated soil-plant-microbe interactions in semi-arid agricultural soils and developed his expertise in molecular ecology. At Bioscience, Falko runs the DNA lab applying his skills and experience to both internal and external R&D projects as well as plant pathology.

Didier Alanoix

Didier Alanoix | Environmental Scientist

Didier holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biochemistry from University of Reunion Island and a Master in Natural Resources Management from Edith Cowan University. Didier has many years of practical experience in soil and groundwater investigations and reporting for urban and industrial developments. His work includes DA applications, groundwater licensing, ASS investigations, dynamic modelling of urban stormwater systems, and the conception of finite difference groundwater flow models for aquifer simulation.

Mekhala Vithana

Mekhala Vithana | Laboratory Manager

Mekhala holds a cross-disciplinary PhD in Food Science and Postharvest Horticulture from Curtin University, Perth. Previously, she completed her Masters in Crop Science and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Honours) degrees at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Mekhala has over ten years of research experience in food and agriculture sectors and over five years of experience in analysing plant, soil, food and water samples. At Bioscience, Mekhala runs the ASPAC-accredited analytical laboratory, and works to expand the company’s capacity in analytical and research services related to agriculture and horticulture.

Simon Main

Simon Main | Research Assistant

Simon holds a Bachelor of Science in Botany and Genetics from the University of Western Australia. He completed his honours in Botany isolating RNA signalling molecules in plants. Simon has over 10 years of experience in commercial laboratories including mineral analysis, soil testing and asbestos monitoring. At Bioscience his role includes field trials, field sampling, laboratory analytical work and assisting with research and development.
